A Simple Technique That Chris Winfield Taught Me To Increase My Traffic

This is part of the behind-the-scenes section of Mixergy, which I call etc.
Chris Winfield
One of the best things about interviewing marketing experts like Chris Winfield is that sometimes it launches a friendship and I keep learning from them. Chris, who was one of my first interviewees, spent about an hour with me last month showing me smarter ways to promote Mixergy.

I thought I’d share one of the ideas he suggested because it’s dead simple for you to implement if you’re doing interviews and it’s been helping lead more people to my work.

His suggestion

Chris said that after I publish an interview I should ask the interviewee to tweet out a link to the finished program. He also urged me to make it easier  for guests to embed their interviews with a link back to my site.

So here’s the email I send out now after I publish an interview.

Our interview is up on http://mixergy.com

Thanks for doing it. Here’s what you can do next:

1) If you want any changes to the text or your picture, tell me.

2) Could you tweet it out to your followers? This should make tweeting easy.

3) You can post the full video on your site:

If you have any feedback on this experience, I’m always eager to listen and improve my work. Let me know.

What do you think?

- Do you have any suggestions for how I can get more people to listen to my interviews?

- How can I get more of my interviewees to embed the video?

- Is there anything else that I can do to improve my promotion?

How can I help you?

I want to help more of my viewers become interview creators. As you can see, it’s a great way to learn and meet smart people like Chris.

I’m trying to put together a list of Frequently Asked Questions about interviewing. So if you’ve considered doing your own interviews and have some questions, email me and I’ll try to include your answer in my FAQ.

I like it. Simple and efficient. It saves so much time when you have a template created for things you do often (like interviews). I find Chris is a master at this, you can be hanging out with him and he's all calm and cool, but he's likely getting work done via some set of action steps he earlier set into play.

rather than put the code into the email, maybe create a simple page that has the embed codes, share links – remember twitter is just one thing – there are plenty of other ways to share too.

also this way the code would never be broken by an email tool

  3. Andrew Warner Says:

Allen, thanks! Do you think I can just add those share links to the post, or
do I need to create a separate page for them? I'm trying to minimize my
    work.

  4. Andrew Warner Says:

Yeah, plus it keeps me from forgetting what I need to tell them.

  5. Rahul Chaudhary Says:

How about syndicating interviews out to top video sharing sites? You can use service such as TubeMogul that makes it easy to manage and track the syndication.

  6. melvinram Says:

Adding those to the interview page would be best because others may decide to embed your video or share your website with their friends. The interviewees are not the only ones who will want to share your interviews.
