Billy Mays, one of the world’s best salesman died this morning.
I wish I had a chance to interview him.
The guy made selling fun. I pulled together a few of my favorite Billy Mays Commercials to show you why I think he was an incredible pitchman.
First a quick history of Billy Mays
- Born William Mays in McKees Rocks, Pa., on July 20, 1958
- Developed his pitch on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, hawking “as seen on it” items
- His reputation as a salesman made him into a hired gun who attracted crowds at state fairs
- Met Orange Glo founder Max Appel, who recruited Mays to sell on Home Shopping Network
- He became one of the most effected and most seen commercial and infomercial pitchmen
- Stared in the TV show “Pitchmen” on Discovery Channel
One of Billy Mays first appearances on TV
He put OxiClean on the map
He tried to remake regular products
He made old products sound innovative
He was incredible at dramatizing his products
He could pitch anything

Sad to hear this…especially since I did an article about him just last week. He will be missed.

Yes, He was a great pitchman. He would just dive into his job as a television salesman and made it fun. He was not sleazy, not half hearted, not full of crap…he was real guy who knew what he was doing and had a lot of fun and passion for it. You can just see it on his face.
He will be missed.

Wow that Big City Slider sure is making me hungry. I never saw that commercial (at least I don't think I have) until now.
