I got a nice email from Mixergy fan Ruben Gamez about the list of biographies that I recommended for all entrepreneurs.

Hey Andrew,

Just wanted to thank you about your biography recommendations. I’m a bootstrapper with a SaaS product, so when I looked at your list I was doubtful I’d get anything useful out of those biographies. Man, I was so freaking wrong!

I’m reading “Call Me Ted” right now and that’s some crazy shit! It’s really eye opening how that guy does business and how much energy he puts into what he’s doing (on his hands and knees twice?!) Beyond just getting me motivated and inspired, it really gets the gears turning about how biz dev stuff is such a huge part of massive growth (that and Jay Abraham which I’m also currently reading).

Thanks for posting that list, and I’ll definitely be going through the other books now!

His reference to Ted Turner getting on his hands and knees is a reference to how much Ted was willing to do to make a sale.

In an interview about the first company I built, I talked about how reading stories like that inspired me to go to outrageous lengths to make sales.

If you’ve read any of the books on my suggested reading list, let me know what you thought.

And check out Ruben’s web site, Bidsketch. It’s simple proposal software for designers. (And it looks beautiful.)
